Can Pro-Israel be Pro-gressive?
Monday, February 28, 3:15 - 4:30pm
Room 151B

Traditionally, there has been a rift between the American Left and the pro-Israel community. The progressive
movement—especially its leaders—frequently avoids issues involving Israel or the peace process. When
disagreements over Israel’s wars, its efforts toward peace, and its domestic policies are voiced, they are
often met with heated criticism from the traditional pro-Israel camp. As a solidly progressive constituency
that cares deeply about Israel, how do American Jews fit into this dynamic? Does a conflict exist between
liberal values and support for Israel? How does J Street’s pro-Israel, pro-peace message change the
conversation? Can pro-Israel indeed be pro-gressive?
