Americans for Peace Now Presents: Is the Settlement Enterprise Destroying Israel’s Democracy?
Monday, February 28, 10:45 - 12:00pm
Room 150AB
Israelis are coming to realize that West Bank settlements, in addition to being an obstacle to peace
with the Palestinians, a security liability, and an economic drain, are also a terrible moral burden. The
settlements are a main cause of Israel’s growing international isolation. This panel of leading scholars
and activists, specializing in Israeli West Bank settlements, will go beyond facts and figures and address
the price that Israelis and Palestinians are paying for Israel’s maintaining and expanding settlements.
Participants will discuss Israeli settlement policy and its political, economic and security ramifications, as
well as its impact on Israeli democracy and on its aspiration to be “a light unto the nations.”
Panelists:
Gershom Gorenberg, Journalist; Author; Historian
Hagit Ofran, Director, Peace Now’s Settlement Watch Project
Michael Sfard, Legal Counsel, Yesh Din
Moderator & Chair: Debra DeLee, President and CEO, Americans for Peace Now
